Principle of operation
The operating principle of a pushbutton activated switch is relatively simple. When the pushbutton is pressed, the internal contacts close, allowing current to pass through and activating the device in question. When the button is released, the contacts open, the current is cut off and the device stops working. This simplicity of operation has made pushbutton activated switches a standard means of control in many industrial equipment and electrical systems.
Pushbutton activated switches come in a variety of types and structures, the following are common:
Normally open type (NO, Normally Open): when the button is not pressed, the contacts are in a disconnected state; when the button is pressed, the contacts are closed and current passes through.
Normally closed (NC, Normally Closed): When the button is not pressed, the contact is closed; after the button is pressed, the contact is closed and the current is cut off.
Pushbuttons with self-locking function: When pressed, even if the finger is released, the contact remains closed until the button is pressed again or the reset button is pressed, and the contact will not be broken.
Pushbuttons with indicator lamps: Indicator lamps are integrated in the pushbuttons to show the operating status of the device (e.g. running, stopped, etc.).
In addition, pushbutton activated switches can be categorized according to parameters such as mounting method (e.g. panel mounting, recessed mounting, etc.), protection class (e.g. IP rating), rated current and rated voltage.
Push-button start switches are widely used in various occasions that require manual control, such as:
Industrial automation control system: used to start and stop various mechanical equipment on the production line, such as motors, pumps, conveyors, etc.
Electric power system: used for controlling the on-off of circuits, such as switching power supply, lighting circuits, etc.
Transportation: used to control the start and stop of vehicles, ships and other means of transportation.
Household electrical appliances: used to control the switch of household electrical appliances, such as electric fans, washing machines and so on.
