The difference between MCB, RCCB, and RCBO

2025-10-17

1.MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker): The core function is overload and short-circuit protection, acting like an "upgraded fuse" for household circuits, which only cuts off abnormal current flow without concern for electric shocks.

2.RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker): The core function is leakage current protection. It trips when detecting a human electric shock (current leakage to ground) but does not prevent overload or short circuits.

3.RCBO (Residual Current Breaker with Overcurrent Protection): It combines the functions of MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) and RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker), offering triple protection against overload, short circuit, and leakage current, making it the most comprehensive in functionality.

Simply put, an MCB protects against "circuit failure," while an RCCB guards against "electric shock." An RCBO offers protection against both.
